upperdeck baseball is now a memory has it affected you?
which option best describes how you feel?

1. upperdeck is sorely missed, i loved having more options and miss their various sets.

2. upperdeck has largely offered a junk product for awhile now. i have preferred topps and its product. upperdeck was just watering down the market. im glad there are fewer products to worry about acquiring cards for my ever growing player/team collection.

3. i wish upperdeck was still here i dont like a topps monopoly i love cards and wish there were even more manufacturers to choose from.

4. i have my own reason i miss or dont miss upperdeck baseball see my remarks in this thread

love to hear your comments even if option 4 is not your choice. theres no right or wrong answer

I miss SP Authentic, and Sweet Spot most of all. I also do not like the Monoply Topps has. In my PC I have Donruss, Fleer, Topps, and UD. I wish that they would bring one of them back UD first choice Donruss 2nd choice and Fleer as my last choice. I like the differnt quality and compitition does drive down prices a little as well.

Thanks for this thread, Tony. I voted that I do not miss UD and they were watering down the market. There redemptions and customer service were the worst.

my first poll, i wish i could add a ref to this thread now so that the quick poll options could be used on the left side of the home page.

regardless i i grew up with topps, upperdeck, score, donruss, razor, and fleer.

doruss really did try in 2008 their threads product was one of my favorites and 2008 threads still is the value per box was spot on. they even packed more hits than advertised in every box and the hits were true hits big names and great looking cards. donruss did one thing right and it was their diamond king subsets. i miss those the most.

and on topic upperdeck im all for #2 upperdeck made so many poorly made sets so many of my cards came damaged and besides the masterpiece set nothing was stand out. upperdeck really did water down the market and besides the strasburg issue i havent seen the monopoly price increase.

i'd like to see another manufacturer get in the game but put their focus on 1-3 products with an eye towards quality and collectors. the upperdeck 25 product hit or miss a year approach is not what i want

For some reason they always over compensated me for replacements... I was a fan of SP Authentic, Sweet Spot, as well as Masterpieces so I do not like to see that down the drain

I picked #3. Mostly I have been disappointed when going into the local Target, KMart or WalMart to get retail blasters. With only Topps around the selection is very limited. And once the vultures buy all the Allen and Ginter and Bowman, the only thing left was Series 1 and 2. I prefer the old stylecards like A&G and Heritage and Masterpieces. For someone who cannot afford to go buy hobby boxes, the blasters were my only outlet. And now, I have nothing left to choose from. I had to settle for one of those assorted pack boxes and the last two packs of A&G yesterday. Very disappointing. I miss having selection.

scott i feel you. although your response seems to fuel my argument that ud watered down the market. as a collector i want to see the cards get bought up. ud pushed so many sets. and so many of the same type of sets i could list 25 ud products in 2008 and you can put them all in 3 categories/// high end, did it last year so here it is again, and value. every set has its place but do we really need 6 or 7 of the same thing from the same company?
series 1,series 2, uperdeck x, [upperdeck x has my vote top 10 junk products of that year] piece of history, and sooo many more are just the same product on a different colored card many times the same picture of the player used from set to set.
topps isnt perfect. they do however offer enough and cover the hobby that upperdeck was largely meaningless.

Like Jim, I think their customer service was intentionally awful. They could have cleaned things up a lot, but continued to take for granted they could produce 60 crap lines of product and 3 decent ones. 'Bout time that was proven untrue. I think all the leagues are going to give companies short term leases and short ropes. They can do their best, or hang themselves with it.

I agree with you on the onerous number of products that UD put out but it would still be nice to have the ability to select more. The way it is now with only Topps,everyone scooped up the Bowman and Allen and Ginter blasters that nothing was left. My hope is that UD gets back in and then they and Topps ONLY put out one low end set each, one or two medium and one high end. This would give me the opportunity to have more product to buy. Now, collectors that were buying Masterpieces, for example, now use that money instead on A&G or Heritage so those products are now selling faster. The point is- I would just like something left on the shelf when I walk into a Target or WalMart from this year instead of having to choose between single packs or assorted pack boxes. Without UD there, not enough product to go around for the demand.
