Did anyone else see or hear about this???????

Did anyone else get a survey from EBay asking if they would use a new service they are currently contemplating called EBay Shipping Assistant or EBay Concierge. You basically send your stuff to EBay and then they scan, list and ship for you. It is straight out of Check Out My Cards playbook. Exactly the same thing. Only difference is Ebay would do it for all categories not just cards and I believe in the survey they were considering 30 or 35% of sale fee. You don't pay unless the product sells. Did not say if there was any initial cost like on COMC. What are everyone's thoughts? I think I would definitely do this. No more worries about shipping problems or costs or buyer claiming not right product.

eBay is just opening another can of worms. they need to fix the problems they currently have, without creating new problems.

    just my two cents.

I think once companies accumulate a certain amount of money that it should turn into venomous snakes if they try and increase profits 500% every couple of months (with total disregard for their clientele and current issues).

Remember the deal back in the 70s with "Ma Bell". The government stepped in and broke up the monopoly. Thinking it's time for Congress (if they wouldn't mind taking a break from sports scandals) to look at the eBay/PayPal monopoly.

Beckett- biggest monopoly in the business world. Price them, sell them, grade them, etc. manipulating the industry inside and out... you can't be much more crooked if you ask me.

Lily: I just looked at the SCAs rules and you are NOT allowed to use language like that, so please refrain from using the "B" word (beckett)...lol

I set up at Card Shows and I get so tired of hearing people trying to sell me something and saying "the book value on Beckett is...", but when they try to buy they say "I can get that on eBay for..."

but that's another story for another day.

Ebay and paypal are nowhere near a monopoly. They may be the biggest, but there are probably hundreds of different auction sites. I'm personally signed up for two other payment accounts besides Paypal. The problem is, not many other people I come across use them. Ma Bell was different. You either had Ma Bell, or you didn't have a phone.

The buyers like to use Ebay, so that's where all the sellers go. Unfortunately, it's given the company a certain level of immunity. Just like Beckett, they know that no one is going to leave. They only way it will change is if you stop using Ebay (buying and selling). Stop using Beckett. Until these companies start seeing a drop in profits, they have no reason to stop doing whatever they want.

As for the original topic... it's not much different from what all those little Ebay You-Sell stores have done for a few years. It's not a bad idea to make it easier for someone to sell something, and it certainly makes it easier for buyers, so they don't have to wonder when/if the individual seller is going to ship what they say they will. I'm not sure I could give up almost a third of the sale price, though... that seems like an awful lot, even if you only need to put in minimal effort.

I won't... not at 30-35% of sale fee.

Lets say I want to sell a $100 card.
I gotta pay Ebay $30 more just to scan and list it for me?

    haha I don't think so.

On the point of no sale = no fees.
I'll just drop the price by $20 and the sale of a $100SV card for $80 is pretty much guaranteed.

Unfortunately, Ebay is here to stay. Let's not forget that they do sell an item or two that is not sports related. There are folks that make their living off eBay. they will never boycott the giant. Personally I used to list 1000's of items there, but ever since a few malcontents left me less that 5 star ratings I now get monthly notices saying how bad of a seller I am. All from folks that bought 20 or 30 dollar cards for 99 cents but didn't like the 3 dollar shipping. I just don't list much there anymore. I doubt if even half the buyers even left me feedback at all. If they had I would not be in the bad seller percentile.
As far as the policy goes I think 35% is outrageous. I think as long as there are trading forums like this one, we should use them first. Granted you don't reach as many buyers, but the fees sure are less.
I do think that ever now and then if one makes a sale here a small donation to the site is in order. Danged sight cheaper than ebay fees.
Always looking for St Louis Cardinals Autos and Game Used cards
