    todays thrift store find.

the wife and I do a lot of rummaging in second hand shops, flea markets and the likes both for just our own collecting habits and deals but I also flip a fair amount of stuff we find good deals on to make a lil money to go back into the cash we spend and boost our ability to buy more stuff...or at least sell the excess and with a little elbow grease get a lot of our stuff "free" after the fact.

well normally when we run across sports cards at a thrift store its nothing but 1990-1991 junk, or late 80s junk. usually battered and beaten sometimes you run into that rare "collectors" investment stash of 250 copies of a cliff floyd rookie or something...but usually worthless... not a remarkable find or anything on this but for $7.99 I had to pick it up.

binder filled with mint (and I mean really nice) cards, half of which were 1998 zenith 5x7 cards the other half were 1982 donruss diamond kings and then an oddball assortment of cards.

anyway if anyone is interested in any of these for cheap or for a "I don't care much just let me know if you have any maddux cards we might want" I'm really just looking to save them from the thrift store, get them to people who might want them and maybe make some of the $8 back

    anyway here they are:

    1998 zenith 5x7s:
    2x roger clemens Z45
    1x alex rodriguez Z14
    1x mike piazza Z21
    1x tony gwynn Z22
    1x andruw jones Z9
1x greg maddux Z3 (got the whole book for this really)
    6x ken griffey sample Z40
    2x vladimar guerrero Z41
1x nomar Z1 (card is red? this any different than the standard 5x7s?)
    2x travis lee Z67
    1x javy lopez Z62
    1x jaret wright - impulse Z69
    1x frank thomas Z4
    1x frank thomas Z-team #1

    1995 Emotion Ripken #8 Cal Ripken# {Shortstop HR Record}

3 1995 UD commerative michael jordan NNO jumbo cards (not sure which ones they are can't figure it out)

24x 1982 donruss diamond kings nolan ryan

if you want/need anything other than the Maddux, drop me a line

great pickup. not sure why people stay away from the Second-Hand Stores, Flea Markets, and Garage Sales. These are the places where you will find that "white whale" that you knew existed, but have never seen.

I know a guy who picked up a Manny Machado refractor auto from a flea market for $3. You never know what you could find.

I love flea markets, yard sales and junk stores. I am always looking for ball cards in them as well. I found some real beauties this summer that I posted a few months ago. Nice finds.

we go pretty frequently...not as much as back before i had a daughter to tend to, but definitely always on the hunt.

usually don't find much in the way of sports cards that are worthwhile at least...this summer found an almost complete set of 1980 and 1981 topps in pretty much mint condition...the henderson wasn't there and i debated too long on it...went back to my parents house where we were visiting...almost immediately went back out to go back and buy them all ($20 for both boxes) but someone had just snagged them before I got there. kicked myself on that one.

most of my money has been made in vintage/OOP/weird cult 1st edition books over the years - I did find a miguel cabrera minor league auto card for a dime (one severely dinged corner..but still..a dime!) at that same thrift store the 80-81 topps were at.

I found a couple of 03-04 Exqusite Basketball patch auto's, one of David Robinson and the other Gary Payton. They were on a box of mixed sports I bought for 50.00
