    Larkin is Latest HOF choice

Barry Larkin was selected to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame Monday. Getting well over the required 75% of votes, I think this was Larkin's third try.

Absolutely love when a player stays with the same team, even if they dont win a championship. Congrats Barry!

He was one of my favorites growing up, but then again, pretty much any good shortstop was. Ozzie Smith, Cal Ripken Jr., Larkin, A-Rod (seattle version), ect ect ect, lol. He definately deserves to be in the HoF, former league MVP should be almost enough enough to get anybody in, lol.
I collect: A.J. Green, Ponder, DeMarco Murray, Locker, Gabbert, Torrey Smith, Andy Dalton, Cam Newton, Stafford, Calvin Johnson, Elway, Von Miller, Eric Decker, Sakic, Patrick Roy, Dale Jr.

Maybe it's all about perspective, and the fact that I grew up watching a lot of these players, but the Hall of Fame doesn't seem to be what it used to be. It just seems to me that the Hall should be reserved for the true immortals of the Game... The Ty Cobbs, the Hank Aarons, the Mickey Mantles... you know, the guys that are still talked about today. Will people really be talking about the great Roberto Alomar and legendary Barry Larkin in even twenty years. Even while they were playing, I never remember thinking they were one of the greatest players of their era.

Both of them were very good players, but I'm not sure that they measure up as all time greats to me. Am I alone in this?

I hear some of the names being talked about, and just can't think of them in the same breath as some of the legends.

That said, I would have voted for Phil Nevin, just so he didn't end up with zero votes.

His across the board stats elevate him a bit, but he doesn't exactly stand out in any category in my mind. Today, staying with one team the entire career means the Yankees, Red Sox, Marlins, Cubs, and Angels don't think you're worth the money... or Scott Boros isn't your agent.
